“[Preservation] is empty pocketbooks, bloody fingers, and private satisfactions. It is long hours, hard work, and no pay. It is a personal dialogue with ghosts. It is a face-to-face confrontation with the past... It is an equation between self and history so powerful that it makes us lie down in front of bulldozers, raise toppled statues, salvage old boats.”

The Buchanan Preservation Society needs you! There are many ways you can help. The BPS can use any time and talent you are willing to contribute.
We are always looking for Pears Mill guides, greeters, and millers on Summer Saturdays. Historic craft and trade demonstrators are a welcome addition to the tours of the Mill. For the handy and hands-on crowd, the Pears Mill and Race have engineering and maintenance projects. Offers of legal, real estate, and web expertise are also greatly appreciated. Problem solving people with a passion to preserve are in constant demand.
We issue periodic newsletters, conduct
preservation workshops, operate a historic plaque program, bestow annual preservation awards, and are working on a self-guided walking tour of Buchanan’s historic buildings and places.
We’d love to have you!
